Mbps to MB/s converter
Convert internet speed in megabits per second (Mbps) to megabytes per second (MB/s).
Megabit (Mb) ⇄ Megabyte (MB)
Works offline1 Megabit (Mb) = 0.125 Megabyte (MB)

How the conversion works
8 megabits = 1 megabyte, so MB/s = Mbps ÷ 8. A 100 Mbps plan can download at most about 12.5 MB/s.
Quick reference table
| Megabit (Mb) | Megabyte (MB) |
|---|---|
| 8 Megabit (Mb) | 1 Megabyte (MB) |
| 10 Megabit (Mb) | 1.25 Megabyte (MB) |
| 20 Megabit (Mb) | 2.5 Megabyte (MB) |
| 50 Megabit (Mb) | 6.25 Megabyte (MB) |
| 100 Megabit (Mb) | 12.5 Megabyte (MB) |
| 200 Megabit (Mb) | 25 Megabyte (MB) |
| 500 Megabit (Mb) | 62.5 Megabyte (MB) |
| 1,000 Megabit (Mb) | 125 Megabyte (MB) |
When you need this
Internet plans are sold in Mbps, but downloads and file managers show MB/s, which makes a plan look eight times slower than advertised. For example, a 1 GB file at 50 Mbps takes roughly 2 minutes 40 seconds (8,000 megabits ÷ 50 per second = 160 seconds), if the connection is fully used.
Frequently asked questions
How many MB/s is 100 Mbps?
100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s at best. Real-world speeds are usually a little lower because of overheads and Wi-Fi.
Why is my download slower than my plan?
Besides the 8× difference between bits and bytes, speed depends on Wi-Fi quality, the server you download from, and how many devices share the connection. Run the speed test on the home page to check your actual speed.
Is MB the same as Mb?
No. Capital B means bytes, lowercase b means bits. One byte is eight bits.
