How CTC becomes in-hand salary
CTC (cost to company) includes items that never reach your bank account, such as the employer’s PF contribution. In-hand salary is what is left after the employee’s PF, professional tax and income tax deducted at source (TDS) are taken out of the gross pay.
Professional tax
Professional tax is charged by states and the amount depends on the state and salary slab. Karnataka (Bangalore) usually deducts ₹200 per month; enter your own state’s figure from your payslip.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my in-hand lower than CTC ÷ 12?
Because of employer PF, employee PF, professional tax, income tax and any insurance or gratuity inside the CTC.
Is the tax figure exact?
No. It is a simple estimate under the new regime. Your employer’s payroll may use the old regime or count other deductions.
